1. What QuantaCloud is

Part 01

QuantaCloud is one sign-in that opens up to three things. Which of them you see depends on what your administrator has switched on for your account.

QuantaDrive (/drive)

Your company file storage. Workspaces, folders, files, versions, sharing, whiteboards and desktop sync. This is where most people spend their time.

QuantaGrid (/grid)

A direct browser for your own cloud storage buckets — Amazon S3, Azure Blob. Many users never see this.

1.1. The two roles

Your account holds one of two roles. This guide covers the User role, which is what almost everyone has:

Account role	What it means	Which guide

Admin	Everything a User can do, plus the tools for running the platform.	This guide, and the separate Administrator Guide

Two different kinds of role

Do not confuse your account role (User or Admin, above) with your workspace role (Owner, Editor, Commenter or Viewer, in Part 10). They are separate. A User can be the Owner of a workspace; an Admin can be a mere Viewer in someone else’s.

1.2. The words this guide uses

Workspace

A shared container for files, with its own storage quota, its own member list and its own settings. Most work happens inside one.

My Files

Your own private area. Nobody else sees it unless you share something from it.

Entitlement

Permission to use a whole product. If QuantaGrid is not entitled to you, you will not see it at all.

Workspace role

What you are allowed to do inside one workspace: Owner, Editor, Commenter or Viewer.

Member

Someone added to a workspace, who can then open its files according to the role they were given.

Device

A computer running the QDrive desktop app, registered to your account so its folders back up automatically.

Before you start

You need three things from whoever set up your account: the web address of your QuantaCloud site, your username, and your first password. Everything in Part 02 assumes you have them.
